Me vs. the Cousins: +$2325 in 1.5 hours

WARNING: There is a horrible poker play in this entry that could be harmful to any poker player that takes his strategy seriously. If you are offended by bad play, please stop reading immediately.

Despite the ending of my last blog entry, last night (this morning) ended up being a lot crazier than the home game. I’m going to bang this entry out because I’m swamped with stuff right now trying to do a million things at once.

Last night when I was driving home a friend of mine texted me and she was drunk with her cousin hanging out. They were talking all this shit about how I don’t ever hang out with them, blah blah blah. So I stopped by to say hi and they were asking me about my poker last night. When I told them I lost, the cousin of my friend was talking all this shit about how she’s better at blackjack then I am at poker. I was like, WTF? She keeps talking about blackjack and all of a sudden she is fiendin’ to play. She wants to drive all the way to San Manuel Indian Resort an hour away. This is at 2 a.m. and we all have to work in the morning. We settle on Hustler Casino, which is 20 minutes away. Well on the way there they couldn’t even wait and we ended up stopping short at Hollywood Park (home field, baby). I tell them I don't want to play blackcrack so the cousin challenges me and says that she bets me she'll win more in blackcrack then I will in poker. Sure. They start playing blackcrack and I say “I’ll be right back” and go play the $200 No Limit game.

On my third hand I made the worst play/biggest suckout of my life. For some unknown reason I limped with 7d4d in early position. The guy on my left limped and then a middle position player who looked drunk raised to $10. The button player called, I threw in the extra $5 and then the guy on my left re-raised to $35. Everyone called so I called praying for a miracle flop. Not gonna happen. The flop was 6s3s3c. I thought for a minute and in a moment of pure stupidity shoved my stack in (roughly $150 at this point) hoping that everyone had two high cards. The guy on my left insta-called and the other two folded. He showed pocket aces and I was toast. I said “Good hand, I didn’t think you had a made hand. I’m toast. All I can catch is a five.”

Turn…five of spades.

I dodged the spade on the river and delivered the worst beat I’ve given someone this year. This beat was so bad that even I was pissed off at the dealer, although I did toss her $15. The other player just shook his head in utter disgust and left the table to cash his remaining chips out. I was feeling pretty bad about this but what can I say. It is what it is. I’m sure he will forever have my face stuck in his memory as the worst player he has ever seen. Solid.

About thirty minutes passed and I hadn’t heard from the cousins so I went to the blackcrack area to check on them. Only one cousin was still playing so I asked her where the other cousin was.

“She lost all her money but she’s at the cashier’s cage getting more money for me.”

I went to the cashier’s cage and there she was, getting a $500 cash advance on the credit card. Great. I think I’ll head back to the poker table. This is getting ugly.

I managed to win another $125 before the cousins went completely broke and started railing me. They said they wanted me to keep playing but I wasn’t about to keep them waiting after they had just lost $2000 and had to work in four hours. I didn't say anything about our bet, they were obviously not in the mood to hear me talk shit. We headed home at 4:30 a.m. and I made a solid come up of $325 in 1.5 hours. It was good because it negated most of the money I lost in the home game.

This is what happens to me at work after I go to sleep at 5 a.m. and wake up at 8 a.m.:

I’m disappointed that my weekend is crazy busy and I won’t be able to play much, if at all. Tonight I’m going out with my boys and we’re driving to San Diego early tomorrow morning. I have a wedding to go to and a huge birthday party tomorrow night. Sunday I might get some minutes in at the table (I’m hoping).

Everyone have a good weekend and be safe. I’m sure this will be a wild one.

so the game is 2-5nl. 200 max buy in? right?

Seems like the play is "fast" since one is practically putting 20% of there chips in each raise. =)

The play is fast and horrible at HP, which is why I love it. But I admitted that my play in this post was horrid. Lol.
