Freeway Series

I went to the Dodgers vs. Angels pre-season game, which is dubbed the "freeway series" by the media.

As this L.A. Times article points out, the game has lost some of it's draw now that the teams face each other every season in inter-league play.

Nonetheless, the boring 2-2 game became exciting not once but twice when two brawls broke out near our seats in the outfield between Angels fans and Dodgers fans.

The funny thing about these fans is that they don't even hate each other like normal sports rival fans do. Duke and UNC, Michigan and Ohio St., USC and UCLA. These fans really don't like each other.

But Angels fans and Dodgers fans have no gripe. The teams are not rivals at all as they play in separate leagues, and a lot of family members have fans of both teams.

But it's the beer that gets them every time.

By the 7th inning, a lot of the fans were clearly wasted. And they would scream "LET'S GO DODGERS!" directly in the face of an Angels fan, who would reply "LET'S GO ANGELS!" as loud as they could.

And of course that turns into a fight, one of which a guy had to be taken away in a wheel chair.

As for the game itself, it was incredibly boring. To Dodgers fans, you better hope that Andrew Jones has a great season or else you are in for a very long, boring year.

The Angels have a lot of talent and look like a lock to win the AL West.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I sat in traffic for nearly two hours trying to drive from Hollywood to Anaheim at 6 p.m. on a Thursday.

And I missed the Sweet 16 games.

Fun.
