Day 20: Mental Melt Down

For the past couple of weeks I’ve been grinding, grinding, grinding and I think it’s starting to take a toll on me mentally. Probably over the past two weeks I’m lucky if I’m averaging even five hours of sleep. Last night I got five hours, Tuesday night I got four hours, Monday I don’t remember, Saturday I didn’t sleep and Friday I got four hours.

I know it’s getting bad when I fall asleep in the first ten minutes of Transformers, which is a movie that I’ve been looking forward to for like a year. I made a point to go see this movie as soon as it came out and I was knocked out after ten minutes. I fell asleep right when Shia Laboof (sp? Lol) was buying the car. I promptly woke up during credits. But I heard it was a great movie.

On Tuesday I played horrible and was lucky to get away virtually breaking even. Yesterday I played horribly and lost $400 when I could have left with a profit quite easily. Both days I started out playing really well but after losing one hand I don’t necessarily tilt but I just stop caring as much about the money and I’m more willing to gamble, which is bad. I just get restless at the table and I’m blaming that on a lack of sleep. Up until recently, I’ve been making an extra mental effort to make every decision correctly, no matter what the decision is. If the decision is to keep a pot small so I don’t risk much when someone hits a flush, I do it. If it’s a decision to not chase an open-ended straight because someone else is on the flush draw, I do it. But the last two days I’ve just been gambling and trying to get people off their hands when I should no better. Yuck.

Anyways yesterday morning I played a quick online session while I was waiting for T to come through and won about $85. For the first hour I was two-tabling $0.50/$1 NL and won like $50 and $30. Then I spent an hour on a $1/2 NL table and came up $6.

After that T and I went on a hunt for a new notebook and I found one at Office Max. I’m pretty excited about it but I didn’t have time to look at it at all yesterday so tonight I’m planning to just go running after work and then cleaning up the apartment and messing around on the new computer, maybe playing some Full Tilt.

After that we headed to the beach to meet up with Big Time but there was absolutely no parking and we headed back to the house and I went to Hollywood Park.

I sat at a $400 No Limit table for the first time and honestly it was pretty soft. I called a guy’s $75 bluff on the river for about a $250 pot and I cracked a guy’s kings with Ah5h when the flop came 7s2h3h and we were all-in on the flop. River was an ace. He was irate. He wanted to play head’s up on the next table. In retrospect, I wish I would have done it but I turned him down. I’m pretty sure he was joking anyways. I ended up just bleeding, bleeding chips with weak hands that I can’t even remember. I was moved to another table and got my aces cracked by 3s4s. The guy flopped a 3 and called me all the way down and rivered a 4. Luckily I avoided the check raise from him but it didn’t matter as I lost my remaining 165 on a failed bluff attempt 15 minutes later.

Here's a random picture I snapped at HP

Sounds like you need to rest and not play tonight. Your game suffers due to your lack of sleep. Playing tonight is not a smart move.
