Online Poker vs. Live Poker Challenge

Today I have made somewhat of a challenge to an online poker player. The challenge is basically to start with a small bankroll ($100-$200) and see who can run it up higher by the end of the summer. Obviously, this will be done strictly on an honor system and just for fun and a competitive challenge. I am not sure if he will even accept the challenge, so if there is anyone else that is interested, let me know (this can also obviously be a multi-way competition).

Here is my reply to his post and his original post under mine:

OP (Original Poster) --

I accept your challenge.

However, here's my catch: I'm going to be playing live poker cash games here in Los Angeles.

I tried the whole online $50 into $100k thing and I am just not patient enough to play at my home, I lose focus with other stuff and I'm a much better live player due to much more live experience.

I'm going to start with $200 though and obviously I won't be able to show records online but I will keep an Excel sheet and keep my blogs updated. I'm going to start tomorrow 6/15/07 and let me know what our final day is.

I don't have the advantage of the same bankroll management since the smallest game I can play is a $40 no limit game, but I have the advantage of knowing the players I'm playing with, etc.

I have other disadvantages of working a full-time job and playing on six sports teams (three basketball, two softball, one baseball) and rebooting my rap career, but I am looking to take this challenge on more for the discipline that I will have to show then the reality of hitting $20k in two months.

If I can run it to $10k I will be ecstatic, but I won't stop there. I will just run from the $40 NL game to the $200 (the $100 is horrible due to the rake) and then to the $400 and the $500 NL min. buy-in no cap. If I am regularly beating the $500 game, I will switch casinos to Commerce where I'll play the higher no limit games, at which point I will probably be in over my head but on a sick enough heater to take them down.

The good thing about this is at least it will give each of us a competitive drive to beat the other person.

Of course it's nearly impossible that either of us reaches $20k but we have a friendly challenge as to who will make more: the online player or the live cash game player.

Let me know what you think and we can possibly link blogs for this challenge.

Peace.

And his original post:

My goal is by the end of the summer to have turned 100 dollars into 20'000 dollars. I am starting on saturday. Would anyone like to race with me?

My goal is to start out playing 5.50 9 handed sngs until i can reach 600 dollars and with every 4 first place finishes im going to take 1 of them and spend it however i like, cash game, big field tourney, higher sng. to help me stay focused and not go off track

once i do that i will repeat and after every time i hit a mark i will move up to the next level.

And here is the monster you will be up against:

bro, i might of miss understood his post. thought it was a open challenge. either way by competing with more then one person, would probably courage you to try a little bit harder.
