I got outplayed in a huge pot last night and made a donkey call.
Should always go with the gut. Would've not only made me a lot of money but then later saved me a lot of money.
Here's the hand.
I have Jc7c on the button. I call the $5 blind. Big blind makes it $25 and six people call including me and the small blind.
Flop comes 8-9-4 with two clubs. Everyone checks to me. Pot is like $150, I bet $100.
Small blind immediately raises to $200. This is a very weird raise to me. I have about $800 in my stack and he has me covered by a lot. There are so many draws on the board that I can't figure out why he would min-raise me here. My first thought is to push over the top of him but I'm not too sure how he has played. However, one of my thoughts is that he thinks I'm stealing on the button and is trying to re-steal. The only problem is that I can't put him on this type of move with four people behind him still. From what I've seen he's been pretty tight. I want to see a card for $100 so I just call.
The turn is a blank, like a 5 of diamonds or something and he says "check is good," which is really weird to me because I had him on either an overpair, two pair or a set. I think about pushing again but then I think "why not just take a free card?" and I check.
River is a jack of spades. Now I think I might be good but he bets $350.
My first reaction is that he had a set the whole way and was trying to check-raise me. He doesn't look nervous at all even though he's trying to seem nervous by holding his face with both hands, he's comfortable.
I go into the tank for the longest I ever have and I really feel like he has me beat but I convince myself that he missed his nut flush draw and took a stab on the river after I checked the turn. I eventually call like a donkey and he shows Q-10 off-suit for the nuts.
Ugh. He made a good raise on the flop, keeping me in check on the turn. Then he got his miracle card on the river and I paid him off. The worst part was he talked about it for 20 minutes patting himself on the back about what a great play it was check-raising with the gut-shot to slow me down. And all I could do was just sit there because he had my chips. I'll be back for him.
BR is at $2223

Once the flush draw was gone, why didn't you see the straight draw? Especially when he suddenly leads out with the $350 bet? I understand why you wouldn't suspect the straight draw after the min-raise on the flop. But when that J hit, I read his hand before you said another word. lol.
Oh well. Every beat is a lesson. Keep stackin'.
His flop c/r was garbage.
Really gotta fold this river.
