Happy Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese New Year... this is the year of the RAT.

Chinese New Year is the longest and most important celebration in the Chinese calendar. The Chinese year 4706 begins today — Feb. 7, 2008. This is the "Year of the Rat." People born in rat years are said to be leaders, and are characteristically charming, passionate, practical and hardworking.

The Chinese New Year is celebrated internationally in areas with large populations of ethnic Chinese. It is considered to be a major holiday for the Chinese as well as ethnic groups such as the Mongolians, Koreans, the Miao (Chinese Hmong), the Vietnamese (who are celebrating Tết and the year of the mouse), Tibetans, the Nepalese and the Bhutanese. Chinese New Year also marks the time of the largest, annual human migration. Millions of Chinese worldwide return home on the eve of Chinese New Year to have reunion dinners with their families.
