Overall things are definitely going well. I've played four sessions since the last poker update and won three sessions in the amounts of +$930, +$2131 and +$435. Unfortunately, I went to HP when I was drunk and dead tired at 4 A.M. on Saturday and lost a quick $500. I was calling fools down with bottom pair. Through my drunken vision, all those bastards were trying to bluff me the whole way. Not to mention I fell asleep at the table. God I would have loved to be playing against myself that morning.
My big score was Sunday when I made the worst play/biggest suckout of my life.
Basically here's how it went:
(1) I have 44 in late position, I raise to $25. Everyone folds to the big blind who hesitates and then calls the additional $15. The flop comes Kc-Xc-2c. He checks, I bet $35 as a feeler. He thinks, then calls. I'm thinking he has the ace of clubs or a weak king. The turn is the As. He checks, I bet $75. He raises me to about $175 after some contemplation. Now I'm thinking that he has the ace of clubs with some random kicker so he hit his ace. This player is a very good and tight player that I've played with a few times. He has the ability to make a move and also lay a hand down. Based on the board and the way the hand played out, I decided (stupidly) to play like I have AK and I move all-in for $600. He says "I have to call" and I know I'm dead. The river is some random club. He says "I don't have a club." At this point, I really have no fucking clue if I have a club. I just know that I have two fours and that's it. So I tell him "I don't even know if I have a club, I have pocket fours." I turn my hand over and sure enough, there it is, the most beautiful card I've ever seen. He shows a set of two's and I win. I felt pretty bad about this hand as my read was completely off and I gave this poor guy a horrendous beat. I would later felt him again with KK vs. QQ on a J-6-6 flop. He took the bad beat with a lot of class and I give him a lot of credit for that because it's pretty rare at HP.
After that hand I just really coasted and built a huge stack before leaving:
Yesterday I hit about five flushes for huge pots. The only problem was I hit the following hand against a total donkey so I had no idea what he had, although I would have played the hand the same way had I been up against Barry Greenstein:
(2) I'm at a 200 NL table with three donkeys and three others. Donkey limps, I'm on the button with Kh9h. I raise to $30. Donkey1 calls, donkey2 calls. Flop comes 9s4h5h. Both donkeys check but I can tell something is fishy, which I like because this is an outstanding flop for me. I bet $50. Donkey1, who is horrible, goes all-in for $167. Donkey2 calls. I move all-in for $550 more. Donkey2 thinks for a long time and calls with AhJh. The turn is the 10h and I'm drawing dead. Donkey1 had 9-7. The thing that sucks is that if I win this hand, I leave the casino up around $2k but at least I still left up.
That was about the fifth flush that I hit for a huge pot and unfortunately I lost that one. I took off after that (that was last night).
Here's a fun hand that I just remembered:
(3) I have to take a piss. I tell the dealer "Deal me in next hand, I'm running to the bathroom." She agrees. When I get out of the bathroom I wave to her to deal me in and she does so I sprint over to the table. When I get there I just grab three $5 chips off my stack and blind raise. Everyone sees this and there are five callers. The flop comes 7-2-5 and I look down at my hand: 7-2. I laugh and throw a huge grin at everyone and bet $60. No one believes me but the first two guys think hard and fold. Then the lady on the button goes all-in and I call, she loses $250. I felt bad.
On Saturday morning I went out and "partied" with my guy Ike, then found my way back to HP at 4 a.m. I can't really remember any details, all I know is that I didn't win one hand in two hours although I did show down numerous times.
