Internet Plan and Getting Backdoored

The plan: Turn $50 into $100k online through fulltilt. Sound stupid? It is. I think my odds are about 1-4500. But who cares. Why aim for 1k or even 5k when I can go for 100k. I'll start off playing small stakes and just move up the ranks until I'm playing for $5k a hand.

It's no joke playing poker on the computer while the following things are going on:

1. Roommate is doing back flips onto your bed for no apparent reason

2. Talking on speakerphone to someone who is in the airport and there is ridiculous noise going on behind them

3. Neighbors are making babies and their bedframe is constantly banging into the wall (for an hour...it actually sounded like fun)

4. Computer is threatening to freeze up and reminding you that "Windows virtual memory is too low" (FU Bill Gates)

However, it's time to get it done.

I've completed three days of the new internet plan and have turned $50 into $181, which is good. At first I was playing $0.10/0.25 No Limit hold 'em, now I have started dabbling in $0.50/$1 games and $5 sit n go's.

My first day in those tiny stakes (Sunday) I made about $6.50.

Second day I made another $10.

Yesterday was the good day and I made about $110 or so.

Anyways, very ironically when we were down to the final three players of a 45-man sit-n-go tournament, I got iced by a backdoor straight.

Disclaimer: This story may not make sense to those who don't play poker. Basically I was torched by a backdoor straight in a poker tournament, which is somewhat ironic given that's the name of my blog.

Yesterday I played a 45-player $5 no limit hold 'em tournament on fulltilt. I survived to the final three players with a decent chip lead to find Ace-Queen in the small blind. At this point, with only three players left, I'm feeling good about this hand. I am the chip leader at this point and I raise about three times the big blind from the small blind position.

The big blind, who is a wild player and has been talking craziness in the chatbox all night, calls my raise.

The flop comes 3-5-10. We both check.

Turn is a queen. That's my paycheck right there. I bet pretty big, about 2/3 of the pot or so. The other guy takes a minute and calls.

River is a 9.

For some reason I knew this was all bad. I checked and the other guy bet the minimum. Fuck. He has two-pair, minimum. I hate that minimum bet. I call, he turns over King-Jack for the nuts.

Backdoor straight feels so good and yet it hurts so bad.

I'll keep the updates coming as far as my progress.

preflop - raise 4 to 5x the big blind in order to make up for bad position

flop - continuation bet the flop for 75% to 100% of the pot

turn - go all-in

in sit-n-gos online, the pay structure is very top heavy so it is better to gamble once you make it down to the final 3 people because you want to win first. once you feel like you have a strong hand or draw...PUSHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! tek +__+
